  2. I Would like to know if i can buy t-shirts through the mail of your race track

  3. The Hillbilly Racing T-shirts are available at www.hillbillyracing.ca!

  4. Thank you to the Anonymous poster regarding the 'Hillbilly Racing' Shirts. As far as other track merchandise goes, we are looking into this. While mail order has not been previously available, it may be an avenue that we will pursue in the very near future. I will keep you posted regarding this.

  5. Just a few comments. We as a family realy enjoy varney. We are now bringing our grandchildren. I am wondering if there is any way of putting a change table in the males washrooms as there is no place to change the babys. Ansd dont think the ladys would like it if we went into hte females washrooms to do so.
With the trains and trailor races it would be sad to see if they left as they are enjoyed and alot fun!!!

  6. Just a word about the trains and van races...
I am surprised to hear that some do not enjoy and wish they would remove these classes from the track! I sell 50/50 tickets, and from any fans that I speak to, they all really enjoy them, and mark the dates (the Vans especially) that they run as a must be there date! As far as the racing surface goes I have spoken to a lot of LLM drivers from Varney and other tracks, and they were quite impressed with the fact that Varney is one of the few surfaces that don't eat your tires! I admit that it is frustrating when you get a nail from the trailers in your tire, but I think it is equaly frustrating to get a rivet in your tire as well! Unfortunatly there is no way around it!
As far as Debbie Clark and her comments go, what she writes on an independant social board is her perogative, whether I agree with her or not. One thing I do agree with her on is that Clark is a great tech man as well as Smouse.

  7. I didn't think it was Joe Watson's page because he is the one being beat up on by that woman.
I agree with anonymous that brings their grandchildren. Varney is a great family place - outside of the pits. It would be nice if comments coming from people in the pits, like those made by the drivers' mother above, do not hurt the track.

  8. What's the point slamming someone's FACEBOOK page here? THis is supposed to be a positive vibe. If you have issues with someone's Facebook, or myspace, or twitter or whatever.....put your feedback there. Not everyone reading this blog knows what you guys are reffering to.

If this is the best place to air your grievances, then fine....but, if you got something to say to a poster regarding comments they made on another site, then go to their site and let them know there.

    Thanks,

  9. All in all I believe it was a stellar year for Varney in most cases! The fan turn out was amazing! Its been quite a few years since I've heard the announcer ask peple to do the "Varney Shuffle". Kudos to Jody on a great job anouncing this year and to all the other track officials who I believe try their best, even if we dont always agree with them!

  10. The above post is a good one however, this doesn't really reflect the behavior of the track or it's staff. We can not control a driver getting 'hot under the collar' any more than we can control some hot-tempered guy tossing gravel all through the pits in a spin out.
These guys are going to do what they do no matter how many times they're warned. And believe me, they get warned. You think Varney rules don't outline this type of behavior on the track and in the pits? I can tell you that they do and if someone decides to break those rules, well we can only "react" as we never had the ability to stop it before it happened. As far as the two incidents you are referring to, I have to totally agree with you that they were absolutely unwelcomed acts of poor sportsmanship. I know the driver that spun the gravel in the pits was parked and sent packing with zero purse money. As far as the punching incident goes, I can't confirm what happened with that particular circumstance.
There's an old saying..."there's at least one in every crowd" and, perhaps at Varney, we have more than one.
Stock car racing is a contact sport just like hockey and, do you ever see retaliation or fights in hockey? You better believe it yet, for some reason, it's ok there. I have seen a lot of fans act like fools too so, let's not put this all on the drivers and their crews.
Race fans are extremely passionate about their sport so, you can just imagine how much the intensity increases the closer you get to the driver's seat.
You have a great post with some great points and I hope we see you back in 2010. We will, and always will, try to make the Varney experience the best it can be for both the participants and the fans.

  11. Now I definately don't know what you're talking about.
I had assumed you were referring to the Hunt/Ritchie scenario on the front staright but, now you're talking about something I didn't have knowledge of. Enlighten us all please and, maybe we can give you an explanation.

  12. Tolton's crew in the fall classic 4 cyl feature.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Ah...that!
I don't know about any fisticuffs but, as far as Tolton getting his spot back......
As you will recall, Tolton had that race in the bag. In fact he had lapped all but the top six cars. When Sikes ran him over and the caution came out, Tolton was indeed an involved car. Rules state that he restart at the back.....of the lead lap cars. Since he was on the lead lap, that is the grouping of cars he was put to the back of. Because there were only 5 other cars on the lead lap, Tolton benefitted from his own pre-caution dominance and was put up near the front on the restart.
Like I said though, I don't know of any fights. At least none that are any different from the tempered-induced yelling and occasional shoving that happens every once in a while.
I'm not saying it didn't happen...I just didn't know about it.

  14. Kudo's to the track for the 2009 racing year, especially the invitation to Rick Mercer to come to Varney! In all my years going to the track I have never seen it so packed :) Great job to everyone and it was awesome to see it on tv!!! (I wasn't able to comment on the Rick Mercer post). There's always going to be someone with 'issues', the track is definetly heading in the right direction which is so great to see. We spend much of our summer weekends there and our children also love racing! Although I do agree with the fighting issues - I was there the one night when a car came off right at the pit fence and the driver and a spectator got into a yelling match, my kids do not need to see that!!! However... the officials and owners can only do so much. Its the racers who need to control themselves and remember its supposed to be a fun hobby sport.

  15. In regards to the post of October 1st about the poor sportsmanship. I was not there to see this incident but have seen others at Varney and numerous other tracks. I am not trying to condone or make it acceptable but I would like to defend the majority of the drivers at Varney. With the exception of just a few drivers, they get along well and are respectful of each other. When someone needs help you will see drivers helping out their fellow competitors or stangers in other classes. Tempers do flare sometimes and there are a few bad apples but for the most part the drivers at Varney are the best behaved around. There are alot of bit tongues and restraint when the moon is full and that is also a testament to their character. The majority of the driver's are having fun and respect the people they are racing with. That is why the racing at Varney is exciting. My comments do not apply to all the drivers but to most of them. Hopefully the writer of that post will have the opportunity to visit the pits again and see some of the good behavior and acts of kindness that go on. If you watch, there are ALWAYS more smiles than fisticuffs!

    ReplyDelete
  16. I was witness to the behavior of the #35 crew's behavior and I must say it was very inappropiate on their part. In the 2009 General rules, under behaviour, it states that drivers, owners, crew members, friends and family members are the resposibilty of the driver and if they (any of the above),don't abide by the behaviour rules that that driver will be suspened for the balance of the race and lose all points and money accumulated for that event.
As well, under fighting or acts detrimental to racing anyone engaging in a fight on the track or in the pit area shall be subject to a minimum one year suspension. As well if this person is a driver, owner or crew member all points and money accumulated for the race event will be lost ALONG WITH ALL POINTS ACCUMULATED FOR THE SEASON.

Varney is a great track & I love coming there but they really need to enforce the rules (they have laid out in the general rules) right at the beginning of the year and I think then they would not have the problems that cropped up near the end of this year. I realize that the officials cannot stop every drivers behavior but they can set some examples by enforcing their rules. It's only going to take a few times and everyone will learn that they, the officials, are not gonna put up with any crap!! Plus they, the officals, would have less headaches in the long run. Who really wants all the drama?!?!?!?!?!

    Just my thoughts!!

    ReplyDelete
  17. Here is a solution to the problems at Varney. #1)Kick out all the teams that cheat by actually teching their cars instead of turning the head the other way.(Oh Bad officials!!) #2) Give the wives that whine and bitch all the time a soother before their team goes out to race #3) dont worry about facebook posts, it just shows that they are so insecure about themselves that they have to lie, cheat and makeup tshirts in order to make themselves feel better. What is it $20.00 a shirt? Priceless... how did you know unless you were cheating that you were going to win the championship before the season even ended???? Was it my money that i paid every week to get in to watch you make asses of yourselves the one that actually paid for your shirts?

    ReplyDelete
  18. Lets talk about Varney and the way some of attitudes the drivers have, I have seen it with my own eyes how immature some of the drivers and their spouses are and its discusting!!. How about you GROW UP and act like ladies (Mrs. Way with the newborn child)Really??? We pay alot for our family to attend once in a while only to listen to them complain about cheating when it is their own team doing it. Can you imagine? I wont be bringing my kids back, I have more respect for them than that. And Varney owner's.... you should maybe open your eyes to see what is happening right under your noses because really, VARNEY Motor Speedway is really going downhill fast. I cant understand why you defend these drivers and you know who they are instead of going by your own rules and suspending them, they are your rules are they not? Or do the rules just apply to some drivers and not others??? Go ahead invite all the cheaters and poor sportmanship people back because really that is all you are going to get. No one with any respect for their families will want to have anything to do with your track and the way you operate.

    ReplyDelete
  19. You are not cheating until you get caught! And the ones that wine because they are getting there butts kicked are cheating themselves and wondering ,gee why cant I keep up!! Boo hoo! Work on your car a little and stop crying. And as far as the t-shirts go, the points were close between 1st and 4th from mid season on and the sponsor that made them took a chance on the shirts to be worn or to be rags! Jealousy will get you nowhere!! As for my wife, yes she does get upset and vocal when she feels that I am getting a raw deal but she will also be the first one to chew my ass out if she believes that I am acting like a moron as well! Also these people putting annoymous post need to get some balls and put their real names!!

  20. HOW IS IT WHEN MR WAY WAS JUNK AT THE START OF THE YEAR NO ONE HAD ANY THING TO SAY?
AS SOON AS SCOTT AN CREW GET THE NEW CAR FIGURED OUT AN HE STARTS TO WIN HE IS ALL OF A SUDDEN CHEATIN AN TECH SUCKS AN SO FORTH?
ITS CALLED HARD TEAM WORK,LOTS OF HOURS AN SOME MONEY,MAYBE ALL THE OTHER THUNDER CARS SHOULD PULL THERE HEADS OUT OF THERE ASSES AN SHUT THERE MOUTHS AN WORK ON THERE CARS,DRIVEN SKILL MIGHT HELP TOO!
AS FOR TECH CLARKE IS A SMART MAN AN IS FAIR TO ALL,HOW MANY TIMES DID HE LET U AWAY WITH SOMETHING??

  22. I have read most of this comments and concerns , witch there is some good ones . I am a driver in the street stock devsion and im out there driving every race night and I have fun doing what I do best ( smash ups , burn out s, spin outs and having fun doing it .on accation I may get a black flag or two but Im still havin fun. Though I do think the flag men where good to fare at doing there jobs this year " hats off guys though the points standing are all screwed up and still it screwed up and the lap board from thre pit area to the track is all screwed up still and we all had to buythis transponders at $200.00 each that don,t work at our track . Then I don,t mined doing what I do out on the track and Im HAPPY TO GIVE THE SPECTATERS THERE MONEY WORTH WHEN IM OUT THERE 'cause thats what I do best. I don,t care to win just to have fun and that why I go out and do what I do best. Like you all said no one is perfect and I having fun been the perfect clown out there and havin fun doing it to , to all the offials and people I have raced with in the street stock or met and our fans thanks for a great year as well . your friend # 58 dan cairns

  23. re: above comment. Are you for real? You may be the reason the car count is so low. If you want to have fun " smashups, burnouts, spinouts", go build a demo car and get out of racing!

    ReplyDelete
  24. Annonymous said....smashups that's what every class was this year at Varney thanks to all the people that think they can drive but really can't.....

    ReplyDelete
  25. i would like to know what the track's stance is regarding the transponder issue. You had a person that donated hundreds of hours and thousands dollars to implement transponder scoring. Every night after the races he walked around and gave every driver his lap times. He was friendly, treated every driver with respect and made us see that the transponders were good. The track did not listen to his warnings that if they did not follow their own rules about enforcing the use of them that he would walk away. When he came back after his vacation the track treated him like crap and refused his offers to get everything sorted out. Now we are all out $200.00 and the track won't talk to the only person that knows how to make everything work.
I guess the track treats its supporters as bad as its drivers.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I am the person that did all the work with the transponders. The track knows how to run everything and there is not an issue with the technology. There is a misconception that the scoreboard and the transponders are tied together. The transponders are for scoring and the scoreboard is for displaying the running order. The interface between the two rose in price from $2,000.00 US to $15,000.00 US so connecting the two was delayed. I do not know why the scoreboard was not working near the end of the year as I am just a spectator. I hope the concerns expressed by the drivers in two of the posts above are nothing to worry about. I have never been employed by, nor am I associated with the track so I obviously cannot speak on their behalf. I hope this helps.

  28. Pit parking pet peeve..why in such a crowded and congested area WHY MUST you let so MANY
street cars in an area for RACE CARS AND TOW VEHICLES NOT PERSONAL CARS AND TRUCKS many other tracks let only RACE CARS and TOW VEHICLES in that area and is STRICTLY ENFORCED

    ReplyDelete
  29. I herd that their was some construction going on at Varney are they making the track bigger!! and also is there still a class for the mini trucks to run there next year!!

    ReplyDelete
  30. Re; Pit Parking. A lot of staff use this area as well as racers. Not all drivers show up in the tow vehicle either. This is certainly an issue that could easily be remedied should the need arrise but, for the time being, it doesn't seem to be that big of an issue.

As far as contruction goes...yes, there are some changes on the way for next season. There will be some changes to the walls around the track that you will see completed for the beginning of next season. The plan is to also repave and push out the back straight and that is expected to be done mid season. Drivers will race the current configuration one week and, when they return the following week, it will be completely different.

Exciting stuff happening at the track. Might even have a couple surprises to announce at the Banquet this weekend!?!?! You never know.

  31. I would like to know what "Generic Viagra Soft Tab" had to say about Varney before his post was removed. Maybe he could explain why he is using Viagra and still sitting at the computer. I am also wondering why his name would have "Viagra" and "Soft" in it.
Have fun at the banquet! I hear that there is a new emcee and I know that he is going to do a great job and still be home by 11:00!

  32. This is a comment to the post from #58 Dan
I know that you are out there trying to have fun by doing spin outs, or what ever it is you are doing out there, but it is at the expence of the other drivers. I don't mean to sound mean, but when you are doing your doughnuts or your spin outs, you usually end up into the side of one of us, which puts us out of the race, which makes us lose points, which then turns into us spending the rest of the week working on the car, so we can go out the next week and hope that you can controll your car and not wreck us again. Yes I know that no one is perfect, specially not me, but I have never been proud of myself when I have spun out and wrecked someone, that is the last thing that I would want. And I am not too sure that the fans really like watching you wreck someone else, but this is just my opionion as one of your fellow drivers that has been on the other end of your "spin out". So you may think it is fun or funny, but some of us don't.

  40. How will that ever be done on time? Sunset has alot of people and heavy equipment making their changes. Varney has one guy on a tractor. When will racing begin next year??

    ReplyDelete
  41. The front wall is up and looking great. Also they have a company doing the wall so it will be done for race season.

    ReplyDelete
  42. Why don't you start the season earlier and have it in the afternoons to start so if the weather is cool and change it to evenings after the middle of May. We need a longer race season

  44. I heard today that Varney has decided not to open this year. Is this a rumour or did I miss something?

    ReplyDelete
  45. Nice try! The track is on schedule and will open this season. Driver's meetings have already been held. If there is an ounce of truth to this, it's news to me.

Geez, can't a track try to improve itself without being questioned. Sunset is all dug up too but, is anyone questioning their season? And they're doing more work than we are!

Varney will be the place to be in 2010.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I think its great that Varney is improving the place as it has always been one of our favorite tracks to travel to for specials .

Now that all the other paved tracks in Ontario have gone 16 valve , whats the chances of letting 16 valve mini stocks race Varney invitationals ?

    ReplyDelete
  47. So I would like to know whats up with the X driver situation? Is it Varneys intentions to lower or raise the car count on a consistent basis? Because it certainly seems to me that their intertions are in lowering it. There are quite a few drivers out there that have families and obligations during their summer, which in turn makes them unavailable to run a full season without the help of an x driver. Is the reasoning behind the inconsistant rule changes because they want to lower the amount of cars chasing a championship...which in turn makes it less money paid out to those drivers at the end of the year? It certainly isnt to help the drivers. Hmmm...makes you wonder what the priorities are of VMS.It sure sounds like a bottom line decision, and not a "lets make this an amazing race season with a tons of cars and some really happy fans!"

    ReplyDelete
  48. Are there any pictures taken before the snow came of the new wall and the track upgrade progress that will "make this an amazing race season with a tons of cars and some really happy fans!"?

  49. Is the age 16 to drive at varney?

    ReplyDelete
  50. to the guy that said all other tracks have 16 valve engines in the rules maybe he should read
the rules of the tracks .sounds like he wants to spend money and go fast so why are you running ministocks move up to late model or even pro 4 or formula 1 ????

    ReplyDelete
  51. I liked the post from the person asking about 16 valves being allowed in the Varney invitationals. While I prefer they not be allowed, his post seemed very friendly and it definitely paid a nice compliment to Varney and it's drivers.

  54. Mike ford #4 modifiedMarch 22, 2010 at 5:46 PM

I have a question, why is Varney not working with other tracks to help re store the modified division. I noticed that the night that Sauble is having there No Fenders Saturday race, Varney to is still running mods that night to? I plan on running Rick Woolner memorial, but would realy like to know what the track circumfrance is, maybe you should update the website every so often with updates and info so drivers from other tracks that are planning on making apperances at Varney and whom plan and budget well ahead can start making some choices! This also will help the rumor situation, maybe putting some info out there will help not only drivers but fans too, the web site is rarley updated and responses from question are hardly ever replied back!!

    ReplyDelete
  55. It is my understanding that the "blog" although part of the track web site is not overseen by all the track staff so if you have questions you wish answers to your should email them directly to the track.

    ReplyDelete
  56. Yes it is true. This blog is not viewed by all Varney staff and while I try my best to answer questions or, to find the answer to those questions, sometimes it is better to contact track administration directly. This especially applies to concerns regarding Rules and Competition related information.

The blog is intended to be more of a 'fan-forum'.

The question about "why isn't Varney working with other tracks?" should maybe be turned around. Like, "why aren't other tracks working with Varney?"

We run a regular modified schedule every year. Sauble does not. Why they would schedule a modified event on a night when our modifieds run (and our mods don't even run every week) is beyond me.

Varney is, and has always been, open to working with other tracks but, other tracks act like Varney doesn't exist and do what ever the hell they want without even looking at our schedule.

As far as Varney not helping with "restoring" modified racing.....You don't have a lot of options as to where you run your car on Saturday nights but, for the last 10-15 years, Varney has been one of them.

Where've you been? Not at the Rick Woolner Memorial in the last five years. Not at the Fall Classic in the last two years. Don't call the kettle black until you've been here open-wheelin' #4.

The pit gate is always open to you and any other modified that wants to run. All you have to do is show up.

Varney has several regular modified drivers that would be more than happy to help you out with track config or car set-up. Go to the drivers page on the website and contact one. I'm sure they would help you out. Especially if means helping restore modified racing in Ontario.

  58. There was rumour late last year that Varney was going to drop the modified class if the car count didn't pick up. Is this still a possibility or is there enough cars registered this year?

    ReplyDelete
  59. In response to Mike Ford, we run a 3.70 rear end with a two speed tranny in low gear at 6500 rpms plus. Lap times are in the lows 13's. We will have to try the new layout (check pictures) to really know what we are going to have to change,if anything.
In our meeting with the track officials, we discussed the event at Sauble. The plan was to make it a weekend for everybody, with Friday night at Varney and Saturday at Sauble as the two tracks are only about 45 min apart. Varney has allowed camping at the track in the past. It was also agreed by the Mod drivers that Delaware cars could run their own rules as they are very similar. If you see a problem dont be afraid to point it out to us.
With the class not running at Mosport for the upcoming year, we would like to invite those cars to check out both sets of rules and let us know what it would take to get you back out. Our experience at Varney has shown that their only real disadvantage would be the cam and carb. The chassis would work well with a few adjustments. You might be surprised, at Varney
at least, how willing people are to share basic info and set up suggestions.
The rumors about the class disappearing at Varney seem to be more of a suggestion than a reality. Things like constant rule changes or the lack of enforcement of rules has left cars in the shop. With the track bringing back late models, it added to the rumors that our class was disappearing.
while I know that the open wheel cars are tricky to drive and some guys are scared of the open wheels, these cars can be run on the same budget as a good thunder car or super street. I am tired of hearing that our cars are too expensive to run. We run very consistently at 1/2 the cost of a late model, in start up and weekly operating costs. This is not a guess, it is proven by many of us.
The track has told us not only would they like to keep the mods, they need them for the show. Don't pay attention to the rumors, and listen to what the track management is saying.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Thanks Les for the insiders report on our Modified Division.

I did not know that Mosports decision to not run mods was confirmed. I know when it was a rumour, Varney management immediately stepped up and said the track was open to those cars and if the rules werent compatible, wed make it work.

The mods are often the highlight of the night and when there is a full field, there is nothing like it! So loud, you can barely hear yourself scream.....its awesome.

Also good to see that something is being worked out regarding the Open Wheel event at Sauble. It is unfortunate though, that when someone has to bend, it always seems to be Varney.

Cant wait to the drop of the green.

    Lets go racing!

  61. it would be nice if this year for the WOMEN'S CHALLENGE RACE it was actually women that were not racers or exracers, it would give the others a fair chance, dont you think??

    ReplyDelete
  62. I agree totally and it should be in the 4 cylinders as there are many more cars in that class and possible women that would race

    ReplyDelete
  63. The Women's challenge would have had a sponsor if it would have been limited to women who have never raced before.

    ReplyDelete
  64. I agree with the last few comments about women's challenge as I have alway wanted to try racing but too afraid to because you have all these experience women on the track that have raced many of times and worried about them going a lot faster then you when you are only comfortable going at a beginner speed..

    ReplyDelete
  65. what exactly is the determining fact when deciding if these women have raced before? Is it a full season racing any class, or is it 5 races in the WC?

It has come to our attention that there will not be a very good car count in this division this year!! Sounds like track owners have finally screwed it up for good!!With cars such as #77 ,#7 ,#48 packing it in and #27 ,#56 #9 going to Sauble that only leaves Scotty Way by himself... Good job owners ,you should be able to give the guy a repeat unearned championship !!

    ReplyDelete
  67. About the last comment about the super street class. They will not be losing alot of the cars because of scott way, its because of either no funds or just stepping away from racing all together. So get your facts straight all the classes are losing cars but they are bein replaced by new drivers moving up or into racing. As for the #56 and#9 those two stopped good battles on the track by acting like imature idiots on track and off. I have never heard two guys and there crews cry about everything because they are getting beat by guys who have figured there cars and the track out. All i can say is if your going to the beach bobby zee you better not forget a set of headers and silverthorn you might wanna bring a brick of cheese for your wine!

    ReplyDelete
  68. haha that is so true! I have never heard more people whine about scott way winning points this year than #9 and #56. bunch of crybaby's if u ask me!

    ReplyDelete
  69. I have been a race fan from varney for years ,And enjoy going each week to watch the races.i have seen different cars win feature races through out the year in the super street stocks and seen some vey good racing in that division,i am a fan of just about every driver in that class, but if you are going to sit back and cry because you could not beet scott way for the pionts championship, and be completly unsportsman like about it ,well as a varney fan all i can say to you is if you are going to leave an go to saubleis .....na na na na hey hey hey good bye

    ReplyDelete
  70. OMG!!! It really doesn't surprise me that this BS is starting and race season is still 1 month away!!!
I am sure the car count at Varney will be just fine!! The #77 gave it up for personal reasons, the #07 due to having so much on her plate and just wanting a break and the #48 for personal reasons. I have no idea why the #27 is leaving, and don't really care as he drove like a dick, hitting everything on the track to get his way to the front and as for the #56 & #9 well good riddens!! I know that there are drivers moving into the SSS class & I am sure that they will pick up a few drivers from other track who want to try out the "new" track!
How can you say "unearned championship"!!! Scott Way was like any other driver and worked hard on his car (at the track & thru the week) and raced his way to his championships!! Heck, my bet was on Chad Edan this year until he had that wreck around mid-season. And the #9 could have easily had it but then for some reason he started listening to his whining & complaining crew and started driving like a jerk the last 1/3 of the season. And the #56, well he couldn't race his way out of a wet paper bag if his life depended on it on the best of days so he would never have a chance at a championship!
If the cars going to Sauble think they will have a better chance there then good luck to them!! I am sure that they will wear out their welcome there quite quickly with all their whining and complaining as well!!
Good luck to all.... no matter where you race!! Have fun & try to remember that this isn't NASCAR people!!!

    ReplyDelete
  71. I say you should all grow up! If you don't want a repeat of last years end result, man up and bring a SSS to the track and show them up! If not, than close your yap.

  72. Why put down the track here?April 23, 2010 at 9:18 AM

I am a fan reading this and all your whining makes you and the track look bad. Who wants to watch a bunch of sore losers race? Your whining is going to chase the true racing fans away and as the track makes less money so will you. Why not keep the whining on facebook and not here where the fans get to see that maybe Varney's drivers are not the ones to watch?
You should be promoting yourselves here to make the fans excited about the new season. Write stuff about what you are doing that will make me want to spend my money to watch you. What you are doing is going to keep me at home. After reading all this I will not be rushing to the track in a few weeks. I wonder if there are others with the same opinion.
Last year is done. Get over it! Wait until this year's problems actually happen before complaining about them. Complain where the track owners and managers are. They aren't here!

On a funnier note, with the new track configuration, will everyone have to run a rookie stripe?

    ReplyDelete
  73. I just wanted to say a HUGE thank you to everyone who showed up to support the 3rd annual swap meet! It was a success dispite the snow, and we are looking forward to seeing everyone at the track this coming season!

    ReplyDelete
  74. I tend to agree with the post two above. Let's move on and let the season get going before the mud starts slinging.

There's no question that we are all very passionate about this sport so, let's agree to disagree and move on.

I do not know how many SSS we will have this year and if anyone has a problem with #86 repeating, come out and cheer for someone else or, build a car beat him where it counts...on the track. You're not taking away anyone's title by writing anonymous posts here.

Remember the rules of this blog....keep it clean, keep it fun.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Glad to see most people have moved on from the SSS issue but I would like to add my own thoughts on the people who hide behind "anonymous" post on this site.

If you haven't got the "balls" to post your name then don't make the comment. My guess would be likely 99% are made by "arm chair racers" who haven't got guts time or now how to put a car together let alone go out and race!

I am sure the comments by Chad where likely good and to the point...a race car driver and he posted his name!

As for comments made towards Bobby Zee I can tell you as the former track promoter he was no more in the face of the people running the track then any other driver and a lot less then some. Also the people putting him down forgot to post about all the people he has introduced to Varney over the years the promotion work he has done for the track over the years and lets not forget the visits by the Armed Forces!

As for people who feel Scotty Way is going to win again this year, I feel it will be very close but it will take someone who put's in the hours day in and day out on their car that is going to win the class. You can't expect to win any class at Varney by doing nothing to your car all week then unloading it at the track on Saturday night and expect to take it to the front!

I would like to wish all the driver's a good and safe season, and the ones that work on their cars will be rewarded!

  83. anonymous by choice, not cowardiceApril 26, 2010 at 9:21 AM

It was fun while it lasted. The criticism went away and people were starting to post fun things about 2010. Then along comes somebody to stir up the pot again.
The FORMER track promoter is way out of line slamming the anonymous posters. Alot of good things have been said by people who prefer to remain anonymous. I made a few posts and chose stay anonymous because no one knows my name at Varney and I prefer my name not to be on the internet. If the FORMER track promoter does not like that then maybe he should go start his own blog and not allow anonymous posters. My choice to remain anonymous has nothing to do with not having balls. I am a paying spectator and not an arm chair racer. Before going into the stands I spent nearly twenty years building cars and working on pit crews. I spent nearly every Saturday night in the pits at Flamboro but go to Varney because I enjoy the more relaxed atmosphere. No one has any right to slam me or question my opinion because I use an option of the blog to stay anonymous.
This blog has rule to keep it clean and fun. I guess Chad did not do that or his post would not have been removed. This blog is open to drivers AND fans. A driver's opinion may be based on things the fans do not see but that does not automatically make him right. If the blog is to be fun, where is the fun in a FORMER track employee slamming paying customers and insinuating their opinions don't matter? Big deal, he used his real name.
The very few posts we got to see about 2010 make it look like it will be an exciting year. I am looking forward to seeing what other people's plans are. I hope the next few weeks of the blog will be full of good news to bring the fans out. The fans pay the purses.
Can the good sports and CURRENT people of Varney make the blog the Jayski of Varney?
I hope the new track promoter will have a better attitude than the FORMER one seems to have.

    ReplyDelete
  84. It's nice to read the posts about the 07/77 and the 86. With the changes to the track and driver changes it should be an exciting year. I hope there is more news to read.
    Only 26 days to go!

    ReplyDelete
  85. I would just like to comment on the posts about #83 Scott Way! Scott earned his championships like anyone else would, with working many hours through the week, spending way to much money (as far as I was concerned) and racing hard. The championship could have went to several people last year but due to bad luck and strange/bad attitudes it put Scott in a better position and in the end he got another championship. If you feel his repeat championships were "unearned" then I suggest you man/woman up and show him/us what you feel a deserved championship really looks like!!

Godd luck to everyone this year!!

    ReplyDelete
  86. To the person who seem to know everything: I Think you should use the balls you said you have and post with your real name not some bs name that you think is funny. How do we know you arent just saying things to make us think you know what you are doing. And by the way The Former Track Promoter is the best the track has seen in a long time.If you think you can do a better job why dont you step up to the plate and take it on, then when you have worked at the track for 15+ years and you step down we can all start slamming you.

    ReplyDelete
  87. anonymous by choice, not cowardiceApril 26, 2010 at 6:20 PM

The former track promoter was NOT slammed for the job he did as promoter! He was justly criticized for his post where he is talking down to the fans who pay to attend the races at Varney and he owes every honest anonymous poster an apology. The rules of this blog allow people to remain anonymous. Read that post again, and find one piece of criticism of the job he did as promoter. Nowhere in that post is anything negative said about his job as promoter. All he is critiscized for is his post and nothing more. It seems he has overlooked that some of the posters are not drivers and those people are trying to use this blog as another way of enjoying Varney. Yes, some of the posts are people that are full of sh*t and whinning, but why paint every person with the same brush? In my opinion only, the fromer track promoter was wrong to do that and if that is how he feels about the fans then it is better that he is the former track promoter.
I checked with people I know that are close to the track and they question your statement about being a 15 plus year employee. If he worked for the track for over 15 continuous years then congratulations. That's a long time to sacrifice every Saturday night.

    ReplyDelete
  88. And the funs begins.... In my opinion if you won't put your name on your blog, then you must not value your own opinion. If the blog is nasty or disrepectful and you don't want anyone to know who said it,then you probably shouldn't be saying it anyway. Just my opinion.
In regards to the comments on the Women's Challenge races, I drove in the original WOW 20 years (or so, god I'm getting old). Does that mean you don't want me to race? Please ladies, this is just for fun. You have nothing invested unlike the kind racers that lend you their cars. Oh by the way,I really don't want to borrow someone else's car. Can I not just use our modified?
The location changes but the conversations never do. Varney may not be perfect but after 35 years going to other tracks we always come back to Varney. The family atmosphere at Varney is what makes it special.
    Not anonymous by choice.

    ReplyDelete
  89. "If the blog is nasty or disrepectful and you don't want anyone to know who said it,then you probably shouldn't be saying it anyway."
    What a well written statement!
The blog administrator does a good job of sensoring the posts that do not fall within the rules of the blog.
All the positive posts by anonymous people should not be disregarded just because some choose not to post their name.
Can we get back to talking about the 2010 season before all the fans that read this are scared away? If I was a sponsor and read this crap I would be cancelling my sponsorship right away. Who wants to support and advertise in this environment.
It is time the good people at Varney speak up and drown out the nay-sayers and sore losers.

    ReplyDelete
  90. Lots of traffic here on the blog now that the season is almost here!

First off, 'Chad's' post was deleted for reasons that violate the rules that are laid out at the top of this blog....mainly, keeping it clean. I have no problems with people laying out their opionions here, whether you remain anonymous or not, but Chad's post had derogative comments aimed directly at specific individuals. Therefore....it was removed.

Personally, I wish I knew specifically who was active on the blog here but, if you want to remain anonymous, that is your choice. There are a lot more people who view the blog than there are who actually post on it so, if you want your opinions to really carry water, it would be nice to know who you are.

In my experience at the track, Doug is a great guy and most would agree with me. In fact, I'm not sure where we're going to be without him this year.

Everyone is going to have issues with drivers, staff, fans etc. and that's ok. Varney has never been a place where people tend to keep their opinions to themselves and I don't expect that to change anytime soon.

Please, just keep it to a minimum here on the blog.

This was created to be a fun environment for fans, drivers, sponsors and anyone else who happens to just drop by. Keep in mind too that, a lot of our fans are children.

If I think your post is out-of-line, I'm going to delete it.

Just to be clear, I don't want to be a hypocrite hiding behind a fancy user name, most of you know that I am the track announcer at the speedway.

    ReplyDelete
  91. It would be nice to know, if you dont't want to add your name, if you are a driver, fan, sponsor etc. It would nice to see what segments the comments come from. Maybe fans could make suggestions for improvements or something they would like to see.
Oh by the way, I really would like to see Nick's car painted hot pink. Man up Nick, you can do it.

    ReplyDelete
  92. What I posted about the 9 car was the truth...There isn't another driver out there from any of the tracks they have raced at who wouldn't agree with me.....Trust me..... and yes I have raced and I build chassis for people at different tracks.....This will probably get deleted too...Truth hurts I guess

    ReplyDelete
  93. Will you be back this year Chad?

    ReplyDelete
  94. No Chad, you're post will not get deleted this time because you weren't out of line as per the rules I set forth regarding posting on this blog.

Your assessment of the driver of the #9 car may be true and, maybe everyone else does feel the same; that's not for me to say; just don't word it the way you did here.

If you want to call him what you called him, walk over to his car in the pits and do it there....not here.

Hope to see you back on the track this year.

  114. Boy some people have nothing better to do with there time, but slam the good people whom work so hard to make the show.I remember getting a call from the track in 05' and was asked if I would consider coming to Varney to race , so I did. What I found out was that the hospitality and the friendship would leave everlasting memories very much in my mind today,a lot of them very good. Before I make a fool out of myself on my opinions on the latest Blogs , I want to say thank-you to Ken ,Joan and family for allowing us to be a part of your family the time we have spent together through hard times and good times will never be forgotten . As far as Doug Townsend, well I don,t need to say much more than you will be missed my friend .
Now as far as this blog stuff , lets get the record straight !!! The only reason I am going to Sauble is because I don,t have a job and Sauble has a 12 race points series run not 22 as Varney has.Gets back to what you can afford!!!
"O" and by the way Jason they don't allow headers in there rules!!as far as my fellow competitors go I don't wine!!! I just believe in a level and fare playing field for everyone .
When I won the SS.championship in 05' I stepped up to Super because the challenge of beating everyone in SS. was accomplished .(hint #83)
I really hope that Chad #61,Dave#9 iron out there differences because you two will be the most I will miss racing against . I hope that I may have the chance to race you again sometime .
    Good -luck to you all

  117. bobby you will be missed at varney buddy very good times with you there, i want to ask to everyone why when there is a blog about varney it goes right down the tubes and becomes a site to bash people, if im looking at this from another track no way in hell would i want to come to varney as a driver or fan,it looks horrible on the track and its drivers everyone beating up on each other it doesnt look real inviting.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Bobby, I don't know you well but, the times we have talked, have all been positive. If someone were to ask me what I thought of Bobby Zee, i'd say he was a good guy. Anytime you lose a driver to another track is never a good thing, regardless of the reason.

Now, about some of the post on this blog. If you read the top of this forum, you will see where it is intended to be "fun". I've let a lot of stuff go on here because, in my life outside of Varney, I am a journalist and I believe people should have the right to express themselves openly.

In the past, I've only deleted comments that have conatined foul language or, have had hurtful comments directed to specific individuals.

If you're a driver and you want to complain on here....fine. I've yet to meet a driver who doesn't complain about something sometime. Don't believe me, hang out at the Pit Shack until two in the morning after the races and you'll see what I mean. Just follow the rules of the blog...'keep it fun, keep it clean'.

This isn't difficult people. No other track has a function like this on their site where fans can actually get a first-hand look at the rivalries and competition behind the scenes. I disagree with previous posts that say "if I read this bull, it wouldn't make me want to go to that track". I say, this "bull" is exactly what makes me want to go to this track. These guys are passionate about their stuff and are willing to air it out here and on the track!

Remember, racing is a competition with winners and losers. Not everyone is going to be exchanging muffin recipes in the pits at the end of the night.

Once again, just follow the blog rules. Keep it fun, keep it clean and your post stays.

Sorry Oscar....your post was in a grey area.

  119. Could be a pretty watered down Late model field with out the 18 & 96????

    ReplyDelete
  120. Considering these two won all but two features last year (not including Fall Classic), this season could be really competitive for this division. There are already 6 registered as Steve mentioned above. I don't know if either one them are included in that but, even if we only get a few more, the Late Models could be a pretty good show every week. I'm sure Wilson and Van Dusen are chomping at the bit.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Wilson in apparently building a street stock, parking the late model. Where are the other's like Tim Tolton, Bob Tolton, Steve Smith, Ken Hayward, Dan Lawler? It could be a good field of LLM's.

  122. You're right! It could be a great field. We'll have to see who shows up next Saturday!

  123. did the track get a new flagman
i heard joe quit last year but then i heard that the last 4 or 5 years

    ReplyDelete
  124. i see the hurricane midgets are back and only have 2 races this year. are they starting earlier than 7 again and having there feature after 7 with the other races so we don't have to get stuck watching all of their races?

    ReplyDelete
  125. any word on how everything went this past weekend? Whats the new track surface like to manoeuver?

    ReplyDelete
  126. As far as the midgets go, my understanding is that the track will see how many cars show up for their dates. If there are enough to make a show, they will run as part of the night's program.

As far as the track goes, I was up on saturday and everyone I talked to seemed very positive about the track. Feels quick, smooth transitions from the old surface to the new and most importantly, the turn four wall comes up on you fast!

We may need an extra tow truck for the first few nights.

    ReplyDelete
  127. Exciting racing and a great Stock 4 victory by Clark Hartman on Saturday night. Glad Ted Patterson is okay and it was great to see Bobby Zee, family and crew visit. Varney needs more of Bobby Zee and his infectious smile!

    ReplyDelete
  128. We made our first stop of the racing season at Varney on Sunday night for the Victoria Day special. The new track looks great. As always there were some great entertainment, especially during the King of the Hill. I am not a blogger but the decision made by the track officials to run double heats/features for the super street stocks (sss) and varney late models (vlm) made me write. I realize car count is low, but honestly, this is not a good decision. With only 4 vlm on the track, mixing them with 9 sss made little sense. The night moved along fairly quickly, aside from the delayed start to get the lined up crowd through the gate (open the other side of the ticket gate or don't worry if people can't show up on time!). Just run the vlm in their own set of heats/features and reduce the number of laps they run. During the heats everything ran okay but the feature was a definite problem. Once the vlm got going and started to lap the field the problems began. The top 3 sss were in a close battle for the lead when the #12 vlm came charging through This caused problems and the visiting #72 sss got shuffled out only because he didn't want to take the golden boy #12 out. Even the starter seemed confused when he threw the checkered flag at #12 vlm but not for the #76 sss who was right in front of him. Since the checkered was waving, everyone slowed once they passed the start/finish line thinking the race was over, when in fact the sss still had one lap to go. Let's hope they can get a better vlm car count but definitely not run the vlm and sss together again.

  129. Where are all the llm? Sunset has over 30 registered. 19 ran Sauble Saturday night.

  130. As one of the regular varney fans I was very upset to see what you guys had done Saturday and Sunday night with the SSS and VLM! Yes I know there weren't many late models but it wasn't entertaining watching the two classes race together! The late models ecspecially need the track come their feature because they are running warmer and quicker and I'm sure the SSS didn't appreciate having the late models interfer with their race because both classes got tangled up making it an unfair race for both classes! As I was sitting in the stands I realized I wasn't the only one confused and upset with your decision to run the two classes together no matter the amount of cars each class had. I had also over heard some of the driver's friends and family saying their drivers were also unhappy. Also late models may not want to race at varney if they are going to be stuck racing with the SSS and same goes for the SSS I don't think they will want to race there if they're stuck with the late models. Please take what I have said into consideration for next weekend and at least try running the lm and SSS in their own heats and features no matter the amount of cars at least for that weekend to see how things go and to make the drivers and fans happy! Thanks!

  131. What a joke running the VLM with the SSS let me guess the pay out was for the SSS class too. Well I don't doubt the reason for no VLM is the payout compared to the other tracks is way off and as far as good drivers there were only 2 maybe 3 that should have been in that class last year. This year I guess it looks like the #12 is the best out so far. What a joke don't think I will be back to watch if that's what's going on all year.

  132. doesnt anyone check to see if the king of the hill drivers meet the rules the red pickup had sliks and a couple of those cars were from the junk yard
why do you let registered drivers enter it should be a fan partication event

    ReplyDelete
  133. Did anyone ever think that the car count was down in VLM because someone made it a waste of time last year. If #18 didn't ruin the fun for the driver's our car count may have been a bit better this year.

On another note, running SSS with VLM was the worst idea out there. Whoever said they run similar speeds obviously has never timed them. It only got messy out there because there were two races going on at once and so what if the car count was down for VLM it would have been more enjoyable to watch and less confusing for fans to watch ONE race at a time. It is also bad for trying to bring in car count because who wants to have to split a race track? From most of what was said this weekend, that was the biggest disappointment. People do not mind an extra 15 minutes to watch a separate race. Just a thought, then maybe our track may get better rep and a better VLM car count. It was only the first weekend. Lets hope for better this coming weekend.

  134. OK OK .... We get the picture. These comments and several others; and I mean "SEVERAL" others have been respectfully noted.

As far as Late Model car counts go, we do have more cars registered, not everybody is ready to go at the beginning of the season. I'm sure within a couple of weeks, we will be back up to 10-14 regular Late Model competitors. As far as other tracks are concerned with regards to their Late Model car counts, I can't offer an explanation. Our track is fast, tight and very competitive. Does it intimidate some drivers? Maybe. I'd love to see twenty four LM's take the green for a feature. Who knows...with the new track configuration, maybe we'll get there this year.

I will leave this comment up for the time being just to illustrate how absolutely uninformed and ridiculous your comment is.

In case you weren't at the track this past weekend, it has recently been repaved. Last time I checked, this wasn't done for free and wasn't done for self adoration. This expense was taken on by the track ownership in an attempt to make the product better for you...the fans. Also, in case you haven't seen our schedule for this season, you would have noticed that, despite all the money that was spent on the facility over the off season, the Trains and Vans will still run at Varney Speedway. Again, for the fans.

To somehow assume that track ownership taking fans money at the gate is a bad thing clearly shows how unifnformed you are about how to run a business. Business are supposed to take money and, in exchange, provide the customer with a product of value for the price paid.
I have my own business and the reason I started it was to make money, not friends.

The owners of Varney Speedway do care what the fans think about our product and that's why the grandstands are full every night. If for some reason, you have a specific issue, let us know and there are people that will listen and consider your input.

But to slam the track for not listening to it's fans and simply taking money is a joke. Go see how far your ten dollars gets you at Flamboro, the Beach, Sunset etc. I guarantee you, not as far.

    Thanks for your input still.

At least Ken wasn't blamed for Saturday's weather but once again, Varney dodged the rain bullet that other tracks did not! Whether you agree or disagree with him, like or dislike him, you cannot deny that he is a very smart man that has made huge improvements to the track and he started doing that long before any other tracks did. Pit lighting, track lighting, expanded pits, the ice cream shack and kids’ club booth are just a few of the improvements. He cares about the drivers and he cares about the fans.
That was a huge crowd on Sunday that other tracks would kill for. I think the attendance figures are a testament to both the track and the talent of the Varney drivers. Overall the fans certainly could not have left disappointed on either night. The new track was an uncertainty and other than a few unfortunate incidents I think it proved to be a success. Once the All-Pros sort out corner four it should be even more exciting.
While it is the responsibility of the fans to show up on time, I think it was a nice gesture to delay the start until everyone was in. It would be nice if the announcer could be heard in the pits and we would have known what was going on. It might have even increased the sale of burgers.
If classes are going to be mixed, why not have one class go clockwise and the other class go counter-clockwise! On second thought... :)

  139. Appreciated the fact that the SSS and VLM got to run their own races but I was dissappointed that you only gave VLM a heat and feature!! They pay the same registration fee and the same pit fee to get in. They should be allowed to race equal races. Gotta find more reasons for the car count in VLM to grow. Keep up the good work boys!!

  140. why did the 84 sss run the number 83 on sunday of the long weekend? was this scott ways way to make sure his other BETTER driver dosent get to far ahead in the points on him?????

what does it matter to you waht the 83 and 84 do?
If your in love with them so much why dont you post your name and maybe just maybe they might come have a chat with you,IF YOUR LUCKY,

  142. Why do so many people seem to care what my husband does?????? Scott has 2 cars this year, the Camero #84 which Lance Sullivan can drive whenever he wants and he also has last years car #83. Scott is still waiting on a motor for the #84 so him & Lance are sharing the camero for now. Scott & Lance both have no intentions of running for the points this year. Heck people what are you going to say when you find out that Lance and Scott have a 3 car sitting in the shop getting ready to race?!?!?!? If you really what to know the answers to your questions I suggest you post your name, like Jay Stewart said above, and maybe he will answer them for you personally, not that it is anyone's darn business!! As for the people who hide behind the Anonymous or fake names it's getting really old! Get a life!!

    ReplyDelete
  143. Sorry correction we are waiting for a motor for the #83 not the #84!!!

    ReplyDelete
  144. Let's chill out on the whole "posting anonymously or not" issue. The deal is, if you want to register and post on this blog, you can. If you don't, that is your choice but, be prepared to get slammed when you call someone out. Your post will not hold water unless you use your name.

Personally, I did not think it was a big deal that Scott ran the #83 on the #84. Lance doesn't drive every week and Scott's other car isn't ready yet. What's the big deal. It's not like he's the first guy to ever own more than one car. Sure beats the heck out of sitting at home staring at two cars in the garage.

Geez people, let's leave Scott alone for crying out loud. This guy is an asset to to the track. Lots of sponsors, two cars in the field, strong fan base....sounds like a win-win situation for everyone to me.

    ReplyDelete
  147. The camera crew at the track this past weekend is from an independent production company that is shooting a documentary on the track, it's drivers, fans and staff.

As of now, there is no confirmed air date for the film.

The crew will be at the track for the next two months minimum.

    ReplyDelete
  149. no it is not geez there is bull at every track so why any one would think that varney is any different, if you would check out the pits or blogs at all the other local tracks you would see that varney is in no way any different, and any one that thinks that varney is any worse is friggin fooling them self.

    ReplyDelete
  150. BS?????
What BS are you referring to. All I see is a tight division where there is more than one guy who can get it done every night. Last saturday's race between Arnott and Sullivan upfront was incredible. If Sullivan didn't slip there in turn four, he would have taken Arnott right to the checkers.

As soon as we start to see some "racing" upront in one of our divisions, we all start to hear rumours about BS. So, if you're going to post on hear anonymously and start crap with vague statements like what was mentioned above, at least tell us what "BS" you're referring to. The average person on this blog may not know what you mean by "BS" because they probably don't care about "BS". They just want to see good racing.

    ReplyDelete
  151. Who says there isn't BS? The problem last year was #9 SSS and #56 SSS and nothing was ever done to them, they got away with everything. This year it's #76, I've heard he's done alot of damage, this isn't racing or rubbing whatever you would like to call it. This is BS!!! It has to stop!!!! Yes, there is some SSS going to Sauble, get your facts straight Varney!! The reason why this drivers are coming to Varney because they know that they will get away with everything!!

    ReplyDelete
  152. You've "heard" he's done a lot of damage. Maybe you should come out and "see" if he's done a lot of damage. I've seen him run every lap so far this year and haven't seen him run into anybody. He's fast and that's that.

As of today, I do have my facts straight and, if it turns out that some SSS head to the beach than so be it. I haven't heard your rumour so, as far as I'm concerned, it's just that.

I stand to gain nothing by defending the #76. I'm just calling it like I'm seeing it and if anyone is leaving Varney because they are getting beat, well that just sounds like sore losers to me.

Winning isn't easy people. And, to top it off, there's only one winner per race. That means a lot of losers. You need thick skin for this sport race fans.

    ReplyDelete
  153. thick skin yes, varney yiu may watch the 76 run but do u listen to his mouth in the pits? do u hear what he says,u only see on the track and never what really goes on in the pits, yeah sure he is fast and im sure that STOCK CRATE MOTOR IS STOCK too, please, why dont u ask him why he is not runnin at flam this season,im gonna guess the the DQ'S at the end of every feature didnt pay out for him,but god knows he will drive rite on through tech at varney, not slammin your tech guys cause they do what there told to,

  154. 76 does NO wrong (from varney).... but it seems to Varney that it is everyone else's fault.... look in the mirror varney it is YOUR fault YOU guys are loosing cars and your reputation if you have one left. Remember that any car that is kicked out of any track will always come to varney because they know that they will get away with EVERYTHING!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  155. what do you mean #76 does NO wrong??? If you were in the pits and listened to his mouth hes lucky that somebody didnt knock his head off.

    ReplyDelete
  156. What I meant was that according to Varney he does no wrong. I was in the pits, he should be kicked out. The language that comes out of him is disgusting.

    ReplyDelete
  161. Well,well.. First of all Jodi u don't know jack poop about racing. You may be good guy and all but it is really obvious that you are told what to say. The #76 car is aloud to say he can wreck anyone and wall them, that is a quote from Saturday night. Where is the cars SICK of B.S. Varney is called the ARMPIT of race tracks. Sorry until you clean up the flagging and call a black flag instead of rolled up. This Arnott guy had the whole pits in a uproar after the race and no one showed up from ownership to hear the garbage coming out of his mouth. O and Jodi you should come out of the ivory tower and check out the real Varney world get a grip before it is too late and Varney joins other ghost speedways.

    ReplyDelete
  162. On a positive note, I wanted to point out that the track crew did a very good job cleaning up after the modified wreck Saturday night. They were very careful not to cause any more damage to the cars and did a hell of a job cleaning all the oil and water.
    It was appreciated.
Just a thought on some of the previous posts, a couple of years ago when Sauble was having trouble with the street stockers causing aggrevation, the powers that be gave them all a "time out" for two or three weeks. They could come back and race only if that was what they were there to do.

    ReplyDelete
  163. Okay......you listen up ANONYMOUS. I may not be a driver and I may not turn a wrench but, you don't me and you don't know crap about what I know about this sport. I may be new to Varney (5 years) but, i have been involved in racing for a very long time.

I write and call a race the way I see it...period. I am not told what to say, write, report or call. I go by what is on the track and what is in the official results. Unless I am notified of a DQ, I stand by what I say. As far as I know, #76 hasn't been DQ'd. If there is an issue there, than you're barking up the wrong tree. You need to get off the blog and off my ass and go where it counts.

As far as coming out of the ivory tower...I am usually down in the pits every night after a race to make sure there were no scoring issues or DQ's. I spend time with a number of the drivers and, although I may not talk to everyone, I know who they all are for the most part. If "checking out the real Varney world" means listening to the same ten guys bitching about ten different things every night until two in the morning.....no thanks.

I don't know if you're a driver or crew or fan or whatever but, the junk you're spewing here isn't for this blog. This is supposed to be fun. For the most part, it has been until you come along with your anonymous posts.

You can have your opinion and that's fine but, you simply can't come on here hiding behind an anonymous post and slam the track, the staff, the drivers and whoever else you feel like.

Do you really think this is the way to have your concerns about competition at the track seriously addressed? On a fan blog?

I don't play favorites. I'm just a guy who really enjoys racing and am thrilled to do what I do every Saturday night so please, take your battle somewhere else.

    ReplyDelete
  164. My my Jodi swearing on the blog...I hit too close to home truth hurts ! You should be removed from the blog for language and it is true you may not agree with me. I am a fan of racing and like a great field of cars for racing but it is not happening report how many cars are in a race, report an accurate race result like 2 races held at once Sat @ Sun of long weekend you made it sound like they were run totally separate races instead of one. Oh well enough for now hopefully full field of cars soon and who knows?

    ReplyDelete
  165. Finally...something we agree on.

"hopefully full field of cars soon"

  167. ok so why is this 76 super going around trying to wreck everyone and nothing being done! if it was anyone else they would have been dq'd or black flagged! he needs to quit trying to wreck people! Also i thought that we wernt allowed to be saying im gunna wreck you, im gunna plant you in the wall! that is immature adn totally uncalled for! i believe he should have been black flagged and dq'd after the crap he pulled! also calling names in tech after the race is really low! he needs to clean up his language a lot!

as for driven like a knob and runninn his mouth big deal its early, what goes around comes around, they dont call him the crash car super star for nothing!!

    ReplyDelete
  170. All of this with the 76 was caused by one issue. NO BLACK FLAG! How can a driver receive numerous rolled up warnings in one night? He should have been blacked in the first heat after he received his first warning and maybe the rest of the night he would not have continued his rampage. After hitting every car in the second heat, except the leader that he could not catch, the mood was set. When he came in the pits after the second heat the track owner stopped him and they had words.
One question is, if the flagman did not discipline this driver for anything, then he must have done nothing wrong. Then why did Ken feel it was necessary to intervene? Joe is supposed to be god and what he says goes, so why did Ken think otherwise but still do nothing?
One of the major problems at Varney is neither Steve nor Jodi but they sure got beat up in the posts above. They are at Varney because of their passion for the sport and desire that they can make it so everyone - fans and drivers alike - can have a good night. They are not there for the money. They do not own the track and are only allowed to do so much. Jodi can only comment on what has already happened. He is the announcer, not an official. He cannot sway the outcome or make changes. One of the many extra things he does is look after this blog which was supposed to be fun. He is there far more hours than he is paid for to get to know the drivers, sponsors and crews. He works hard to stay informed and keep the fans informed. Steve can only react to what has happened and deal with it. He cannot predict the future or be responsible in advance of another driver’s actions. His hands are tied when Ken and Joe, the almighty one, say there was no infraction. You can’t blame the beat cop for a speeder not paying a fine when the judge says he wasn’t speeding. These guys are getting allot of stress and grief that is not worth the paltry money they are paid. They are not the problem and beating on them here may do more harm than good. Remember that horrible announcer from a few years ago that knew nothing about racing? He hardly said anything and when he did, he talked so slow you almost fell asleep? Didn't that make the races informative? How about past officials that didn't give a rat's a$$ about any issues? They never tried to improve things or work things out. Steve does as best a job as he can within the restraints he has to work with.
In my OPINION the first problem is Joe and the second problem is that Ken sees nothing wrong with the job his buddy is doing. Joe is judge, jury and executioner and very biased as all three. Ken absolutely does not care one iota about anyone's opinion regarding his beloved flagman!!!. I dare anyone to go complain about Joe to Ken. If Joe were no longer there, other well liked key people from past years would still be at Varney doing a good job.
Varney needs an impartial flagman that does not have selective vision. It is the same crap year after year. It is the same terrible starter that does not deal with the issues at the beginning of the year or the beginning of the night and they fester and fester. Hand out a few black flags where they are DESERVED and the rest will fix itself.
For the most part Varney has the BEST staff of any race track around. They all work so hard to see that the fans are entertained and a good show is put on. There are key people putting in 110% but unfortunately their efforts are undermined by poor officiating and poor decisions by management.
With all the money spent on the wonderful physical improvements to the track over the past 8 years maybe it is time to improve the product with fair officiating.
Thank you Jodi and Steve for doing the best job you can do. Some of us do notice, appreciate and enjoy it! I hope others, like Les Eccles did above, will post their appreciation for those doing a good job and turn this blog around.

    ReplyDelete
  171. Here's something positive to talk about.

I had a chance to view some of the raw footage that the film crew shot at the track last weekend and it is very impressive to say the least. These guys know what they're doing and it looks like that will show in the final product.

Can't wait to see what it turns into.

  172. Just wanted to clear up any rumours before they start!!
Scott #83 & Lance #84 will not be racing at Varney this weekend but @ the beach!!! No it is not because of what happened in the pits last weekend either. Both Scott & Lance have made it very clear right from the beginning of the season that they would not be racing for points this year as they wanted to do a bit of traveling. It just so happens that they will be in Hepworth opening the trailer, so why not race to when they are that close?!?!?!
As for the crap that went on in the pits I was witness to much of that and I can say that the #76 driver has a very foul mouth (much worse then mine LOL) and in tech lane he said some very hurtful and disrespectful comments!! I will also say that my husbands reaction to it was uncalled for as well & he knows that I was not impressed with how he acted either. Scott can normally keep calm but when the #76 was putting down afellow racer cause of a disability and then was talking disrespectful towards a women then Scott kind of lost it!! It also didn't help that the #76 was right out admitting that he is going to wreck cars!! I have never seen my husband act like that!!
This is only the beginning of the season and this is already happening, how the heck are we all going to survive the whole season. All this is going to cause is alot of wasted hours repairing wrecked racecars and less time enjoying the summer with family and friends having fun!!
All I can say is I think if the rules were enforced a bit better that were set up by the track and the black flags were handed out more often then I think you should see a decline in uncalled for behaviour in all drivers, my hubby included!!

    Just my thoughts!!!

    Selena Way

    ReplyDelete
  173. Thanks for that tech lane update Selena.

I would like to clear something up that I think is creating an element of confusion regarding my job at the track and the way I write the race reports that get posted on the track's web site, other related web sites as well as local newspapares.

I write the race report as unbiased as i can detailing what happens "ON THE TRACK". My articles do not include what happens in tech, who says what in tech or any post-race altercations. If there is a DQ or a change in the outcome of a race that affects the race winner, I will amend that the following week.

For those that have taken offense to my articles, and this year there has been a few already, please understand this. When I am in the tower calling the race over the PA, I am also taking notes of the race highlights. This can be difficult when I am trying to stay focused on the race. If something happens on the track that affects the outcome of the race and I don't see it, I won't write about it as if I did. I do however, write things the way I see them. I know not everyone will agree with how I may describe certain passes or the technique applied to make the pass but, I have a pretty good vantage point and am confident that what I write is what happened.

Understand folks that, while the track does not "tell me what to write", I do make it a priority to attract people to the speedway. While the articles may not show "the real Varney" (as I've been accused of not knowing), they do try to show the excitement and the competition that does take place on the track and, at the end of the day, the more "POSITIVE" attention I can draw to the track, the better.

I'm not trying to get on anyone's bad side in particular and the track doesn't have it out, or in for that matter, for any specific drivers.

Selena, I hope your cars run well at the beach and I hope we see you back next week.

Let's keep racing people. The season is still early. While our car counts may be low, the competition on the track is still pretty fierce.

We've got a great little track that scares the poop out of a lot of drivers in this province. You should all be proud.

  174. Will the Pro Challenge Series be rescheduled?

How come the person who wrote that races were cancelled does not know how to spell cancelled?

    ReplyDelete
  175. Was just wondering why when a Varney car goes to race at another track they only charge you to get into the pits, no registration fee but when cars from other tracks come to race at Varney for invitationals they have to pay to get in the pits(which is normal) but also have to pay a registration fee ($20 something). It was discussed at the drivers meeting and was decided that there would be no charge and then when they show up they are charged. When asked about this they were told they changed their mind!
This is not helping our car count and does not surprise me that we don't get alot of cars for our invitationals!
I think this needs to be reconsidered!

    ReplyDelete
  176. whats wrong varney no answer for above question?

  177. if going by last years rules, Sauble allows for 1 free night and then after that there is a registration fee.

  178. Regarding the rescheduling the Pro Challenge Series...we will update as soon as possible. I believe this is in the works.

As far as Invitationals go, that is a concern for Track Administration and not the blog. I don't make the rules nor do I pass judgement on them. Contact the speedway directly for the answer to that one. Sorry.

  182. I have to say I am very disapointed to hear of our track officials making blanket derogatory remarks about the female drivers at Varney when speaking through your headsets. Don't you guys know that there are people with scanners both in the grandstands and the pits? In a sport that has always been dominated by male drivers I think we should applaud and encourage our female drivers, sex has absolutely nothing to do with driving ability, there will be good female drivers as well as bad, just as there are with men. Come on guys in case you haven't heard women can even vote now!!

  186. There is some confusion regarding how to register to post on here.
Type in your comment and click 'post comment'. The blog will then prompt you through the steps required to register.
It only takes a few seconds.
If things chill out on here, I will allow anonymous posts again but, if the bashing continues, the blog will be removed alltogether.
Remember, there are a lot more people who only read this blog compared to those who post on it.
    Be respectful.

  189. Just FYI, I was not given those options for registering. I was told I had to comment as: and the choices in the dropdown box were google, AIM etc. I had to go to one of those and register, then sign into that account, and then once signed in, the option showed on the dropdown area "comment as". I wonder if different operating systems treat the users in different ways. What you are suggesting should happen sure didn't for me :)

  190. Ok...here's the deal.

I dropped the "register first" option as it is becoming too big of an issue.

Anonymous post are allowed but, break the rules and your post will be deleted.

If the kind of shenanigans that occured a few weeks ago start up. The Blog is gone.

    Hope this helps.

  191. I hope the rules for the King of the Hill will be enforced this weekend. The cars are supposed to be street legal. I understand that this means plated, insured and a licensed driver.
As long as there are registered Varney drivers allowed to run in the King of the Hill with junk-yard cars and not care if they smash them up it will keep the real participants away. It would be much more enjoyable to watch amateurs race their street cars then to watch clowns intentionally bounce of the wall and other cars. After all, the King of the Hill is supposed to be a fan participation event like it is at every other race track.

I hope this post follows the rules of the blog. When a King of the Hill race is really fan participation it is alot of fun to watch.

  194. That was a pretty good car count and some exciting racing.
Unfortunately there were also a large number of wrecked cars. It turns out the reason for all the wrecks was that someone brought a large birthday cake into the pits. For those who do not know, any baked goods in the pits for a celebration are a bad omen. Just ask around.
Remember: "No cake please. We're racing"!

  195. It was really great racing tonight until Mr. Freak Show had to ruin it by spinning the 82 near the end of the Stock 4 feature and then act like an idiot in the infield. He is a weapon with a temper and has wrecked or spun so many people. Anyone else would have been black flagged or tossed out long ago. When is the track going to realize this driver needs to go? They can't be keeping him for singing the national anthem because he doesn't even know the words or the tune. I heard he even gets in free for singing Oh Canada.
Come on Varney. Wake up and realize this guy is stinking up your show. Is it going to take the rest of the drivers boycotting the track to realize you have a problem?

  197. How can you run a class with only 3 to 4 cars in it. Does this tell Varney something? Numbers are not going to get much better, this is almost mid season point.
